User Guide: FRET MAP
Welcome to FRET MAP. This tool is designed to translate complex music theory into instant visual geometry for both guitar (neck) and piano.
1. Main Navigation: Operating Modes
At the top, you'll find three modes of architectural thinking:
-
Scales: Explore a vast library of diatonic, pentatonic, symmetrical, and exotic scales (such as the Double Harmonic). The system will instantly calculate the Harmonization corresponding (the chords that originate from that scale). Note: FRET MAP uses advanced subset analysis, capable of harmonizing even 5 or 6 note scales (pentatonic and blues).
-
Chords: Build any chord by selecting its base (Triads, Sevenths) and adding extensions (9ths, 11ths, 13ths). The system will generate the exact notation (Symbol and Spoken) and suggest compatible scales to improvise over it.
-
Builder (Manual Input): Break the rules. Click freely on the notes of the fretboard or piano. The system will act like a theoretical "Shazam," analyzing the intervals in real time and detecting which scale or chord you're trying to play.
2. Reactive Search and Selection
Forget about endless drop-down menus.
-
Live Leaked: In Scales and Chords modes, click on the name of the current scale and start typing (e.g., "Double" or "Hirajoshi"). The list will be filtered in real time, and the fretboard will instantly update with the closest match.
-
Alterations Toggle: Next to the "Root Note", use the buttons [ # ] or [ b ] to alternate the entire environment between sharps and flats depending on the context you need.
3. The Advanced Motor (Geometric Control)
The "Advanced" panel is the heart of customization, divided into three tabs:
-
Tuning: Switch between standard tunings, Drops (D, C), Open (G, D, E), or select Customized to tune the instrument string by string, fret by fret.
-
View: Control your focus window:
-
All: Panoramic view of the 22 frets.
-
Section: Limit your view to a specific fret range (e.g., from 5 to 9). Tip: if you are using hood, start from the fret where you have it placed.
-
CAGED (Chords Only): Visualize the chord based on the 5 classic positions (C, A, G, E, D). Activate the Strict Voicing so that the algorithm filters only the notes physically playable by a human hand in that position.
-
-
Issue: Customize the appearance of the intervals:
-
Base: Default design.
-
Rainbow: Classical color assignment for visual teaching.
-
Custom: Create your own palette. Click on a number within the range (from 1 to 7) and then select a color from the circles below. The changes are instantly reflected throughout the interface.
-
4. Reading the Neck and Piano
The viewing area is designed to give you professional feedback:
-
"Showing" tab: Located just above the mast on the right. Click repeatedly to toggle the display within the circles:
-
Intervals: Displays generic degrees (1, b3, 5, etc.).
-
Grades: Displays the name of the musical note.
-
Clean: It only displays the colored dots for pure aesthetics.
-
-
Intelligent Enharmonic Motor: FRET MAP respects musical grammar. If you are in a complex key, the system will correctly write the double sharps (x) and double flats (bb). (e.g., it will display "Fx" instead of "G" when it corresponds to a major seventh from G#).
-
Automatic Capos (Bars): In Chords mode, the system will automatically draw a translucent bar on the fretboard when it detects that you need to use a barre chord to play the position.
-
Integrated Keyboard: Beneath the neck, a 3-octave piano mirrors the exact same active notes. It also functions as a touchpad in Builder mode.
ImportantThis app does not show which fingers should be used in each position or scale to avoid confusion with interval numbers, and because we believe there are many ways to play the same thing; you are free to choose your most comfortable route.
