Music education needs to evolve.
There are people who have studied music for years and still feel fear when someone tells them: “Now improvise”. That changes our responsibility as educators.
Memorizing information that a computer can retrieve instantly will have less and less value on its own.
Listening deeply will have more.
Asking questions will have more impact.
Developing judgment will have more.
Understanding relationships will have more.
Creating with intention will yield more.
Finding your own voice will have more to offer.
Playing with other human beings will have more.
Music education does not need to compete against technology.
It needs to train people capable of using it without surrendering their curiosity, their hearing, or their ability to decide to it.
A new definition of musical progress
