💡 Frequently Asked Questions
What is a handpan scale generator?
A handpan scale generator, like Hangdrum Map, is a digital tool that calculates the musical intervals of specific scales and maps them onto the circular design of a handpan or hang drum. It allows you to "map" all the notes of your instrument to visually examine its entire anatomy.
Can I design lower (mutant) notes for my handpan?
Yes. Hangdrum Map is fully compatible with bottom cymbal notes. You can activate the bottom view, add multiple tonal fields to the bottom of the instrument, and assign them custom notes, octaves, and sizes to simulate the actual placement of the mutating notes.
How do I save my custom handpan design?
Click the bookmark icon in the upper right corner of the Hangdrum Map interface to open your Library. Enter a name for your design and click Save. Your instrument's exact settings will be stored locally in your browser's memory.
Does Hangdrum Map produce sound?
Yes. By opening the Fine Tuning editor for any specific note, you can click "Play Note" to hear an audio sample accurately generated for that pitch, allowing you to preview the harmonic resonance of your custom scale.
